Considered a weed that grows in Africa, the USA, and France, Tagetes has bright gold orange flowers that resemble calendula (which it’s related to). Tagetes is rarely used in aromatherapy practice due to its skin irritating and potentially phototoxic components, but it has been used in perfume to help “fix” the lighter aromatic compounds found in citruses. Therapeutically, Tagetes Essential Oil is best know as very strong anti-parasitic, anti-microbial and anti-viral and is very effective as an insect repellant. It’s chemical compounds are made up mostly of strong of Ketones and Monoterpenes.
